Bukovinian Agency for Regional Development was founded in 2009 by students and university staff who work together in Chernivtsi and its region. BARD strives to foster comprehensive development of Chernivtsi region through the implementation of principles of sustainable development, good governance and democracy. It is achieved through the creation of initiatives towards social, economic, creative, cultural, spiritual and other development of the local community in both Chernivtsi and the region. The organisation works on preparation and implementation of projects in the following topics: quality of life in the community, environment protection and sustainable development, promotion of healthy life-style, education, increasing regional competitiveness and cross-border cooperation. We concentrate our efforts in the following areas of work:

  1. Promotion of sustainable development
  2. European values
  3. Development of civil society
  4. Analysis and monitoring

 

In this context, our regular activities are:

1) Promotion of use of bicycles through the following annual events:

– Bikeday. Last Saturday of May we organize cyclists’ holiday in Chernivtsi as part of all-Ukrainian cyclists’ movement. The aim of the activity is to promote a bicycle as means of city transport, active and healthy life-style.

– European Mobility Week – a week in September, during which we promote sustainable city transport. Some of the activities were supported by Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives, German Technical Cooperation Agency (GTZ).

2) Trainings, seminars, workshops, discussions.

3) Extracurricular classes in Chernivtsi National University on European Integration, Eastern Partnership and European Programmes for Ukraine.

 

Depending on the area of work, our target groups are:

  1. Promotion of sustainable development – the population of the region, children and youth, local authorities.
  2. European values – the population of the region, small and medium businesses, NGOs, youth, local authorities.
  3. Development of civil society – NGOs (including those outside Chernivtsi region), active citizens and community initiatives.
  4. Analysis and monitoring – governments, the media, donors and other NGOs.

In the context of EVS, our main target group is young people (especially students and pupils).
